AKC judges who wish to become qualified to judge a breed must:

1. Attend a National Speciality
2. Attend Educational Activities re: the breed
3. Be mentored
4. Participate in Ringside Observation

The ISAA offered judges the opportunity to complete all four of these requirements and fourteen AKC judges
took us up on it. They attended a Judges Education Seminar approved by the club and taught by Guðrún
Guðjohnsen, one of three experts worldwide on the ISD. They also participated in ringside observation and
mentoring, attended a History seminar with Guðrún Guðjohnsen and Pat Putman, who worked with Sir Mark
Watson in the 1950s and attended our National Speciality. They were so interested in the breed that they
stayed for all three shows and participant evaluations were excellent. The judges were taught how to go over
the breed by Guðrún Guðjohnsen and were shown an alspori as well as many exceptional representatives of
the breed. The judges will now apply to AKC for the qualification so we will soon be able to pull from this list
of judges for future events.

Congratulations to these judges and thank you for taking the time to learn about the Icelandic Sheepdog.
